PE in 2nd grade
Second grade students continue to develop a more sophisticated repertoire of skills and experiences. They continue to enjoy working in pairs, small and large groups. They are exposed to more complex rules when playing games and are constantly encouraged to test themselves in different environments.

THROUGHOUT THE YEAR STUDENTS PRACTICE APPROPRIATE FMS SKILLS AS PART OF EACH LESSON
SEPT - NOV
FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENT SKILLS - Run, Skip, Gallop, Sidestep
TARGETS - Students use hands and feet to aim at "Targets' judging space, time and speed.
FUN AND FITNESS - Students experience "How do I feel" after a variety of challenging and fun activities
NOV - JAN
CATCHING AND THROWING: Students learn to catch and throw various objects using safe technique. A variety of 'target' and 'team activities are used to enhance these skills.
FUN AND FITNESS continues with a variety of team activities highlighting the need for fairness and co-operation.
CATCHING GAMES such as benchball, flag rugby and tag games are introduced to reinforce skills.
FEB - MAR
GYMNASTICS : Understanding a sequence - considering rolls, balances, turns, levels and pathways.
BADMINTON : using small raquets and small courts, developing hand/eye contact skills and rallying

Running Activities - development for sprints and longer distance. Preparation for Sports Day.
Throwing Activities - development for throwing foam javelins and quoits. Baseball glove and ball practice.
Striking activities- development of striking with the feet and hand (bat) - Kickball, T-Ball, Cricket, Badminton
