PE in 4th grade
Fourth grade students are creative during physical activity. They continue to want to learn new skills, and experiment with different ways to perform them. Communicating and collaborating are encouraged alongside competing fairly with others. Students continue to succeed in a variety of environments and continue to evaluate and recognize their own and the group's success.

Throughout the year students practice appropriate SAQ and FMS skills as part of each lesson.
SEPT - OCT Passing, receiving and control - using a Soccer ball. Passing/stopping long and short/ shooting/trapping/control/dribbling and throw ins. Small sided game and 'target situations allowing maximum participation and understanding of "making space" and "support" Health Related Exercise. The Heart. The components of a warm up and cool down. What happens to our heart when we exercise. Types of exercise. A variety of fun type activities designed to increase heart rate. (FOURTH GRADE ALSO ATTEND A 6 WEEK SWIMMING PROGRAM DURING THIS TIME) SWIMMING DATES FOR 2018/2019 ARE AS FOLLOWS: SEPT 4, 11, 18, 25, OCT 2,9 NOV - JAN Passing, receiving and control using a Rugby ball. Pass and catch an oval ball. Concept of run forward/ pass backwards. Avoidance/ how to support. Re-start after an infringement or score ( roll backs/1v1 scrum )Team goal activities/ small sided and larger sided competition (flag rugby). Gymnastics: Students create a partner sequence designed around the concept of counterbalance. There is also an opportunity to explore the concept of 'flight' in gymnastic vaulting JAN - MAR Passing, receiving and control using a Basketball. Pass and receive safely and accurately. Dribbling with control/ jump stop/ pivot. Shooting techniques. Laws of double dribble and travelling. Team 'goal' activities. Small sided and larger sided competition. Passing, receiving and control using a Volleyball. Understanding flight of a ball. Playing the ball using underhand and overhand techniques. Spatial awareness on court. Working successfully with a team mate. Team 'goal' targets. 1v1, 2v2 competition APR-JUNE. Running techniques for short and longer distances. Sports Day activities.
